THIS IS A CANADA STORY!

JUNE IS

 INDIGENOUS MONTH

June, in Canada, is dedicated to recognizing the rich history, resilience, and cultural diversity of Indigenous peoples across this amazing country. It is a month in which one honours the contributions of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit. Rob McIntosh's loves this month. Our "Canada House Mall" consists of 3 historic buildings connected by a 100 foot tunnel (with walls of Glengarry local white pine) and is packed with authentic Indigenous products for you to enjoy. The colours and the designs are beyond words original and exciting.

ROB MCINTOSH BELIEVES EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED

Indigenous

June 21 is the beginning of the summer solstice. This occurs when one of Earth's poles is tilted maximally toward the Sun, resulting in the longest day and shortest night of the year in our Northern Hemisphere. The indigenous (and many others) believe the summer solstice signifies a time of spiritual awakening, abundance, and the triumph of light over darkness, encouraging personal growth and connection to nature.  This year, June 21 will simultaneously celebrate summer solstice, National Indigenous People's Day and Father's Day.  What a blessing but the wealth of things to say makes it complicated to write a newsletter. So as a compromise, this week I'm talking about Indigenous and next week it's all about Father's Day.  Sounds fair to me.

AUTHENTICALLY INDIGENOUS

Indigenous Calendars

All our Indigenous 2027 Calendars are in stock already. The calendars are outstanding this year. This seems early but at the rate time is flying these days, 2027 will be here in a minute and these calendars sell out long before Christmas. Pick your favourite art work now. I had trouble deciding which one to put as an image there are so many that I liked personally.

INDIGENOUS

ART HOODIE

This is authentically indigenous but looks like it came straight off a Paris fashion runway. The colors, the fit, the price are all perfect. All patterns are beautiful but this is the number one choice time and again. This item is a keeper. Great for any wardrobe.

ART BLANKET

This blanket is so...I want to use the word cute (but how can you call a bear cute). Measuring 50 x 60, one buys this as a gift and then feels how soft and cozy and attractive it is, so you keep it for yourself. Artist's name on bottom. Amazing for your home.

WHAT A BLANKET
Indigenous Blankets

Norval Morrisseau, the pioneer of the Woodland School of Art, famously noted how Indigenous visual traditions communicate beyond spoken language.  He said about his art:

"I paint to bridge the gap between two cultures                                                    I hope to help people understand that we are                                          all brothers and sisters, and that the earth

     we share is our mother."

People around Rob McIntosh know that when I start talking, it's hard to stop me. But I just thought of this and I needed to say it. I love writing all the newsletters but the Indigenous subject is both one of my favourites and one of my most difficult. There are so many products to talk about, choosing is impossible. If you have time, on our website, ask for all indigenous and browse the category. So much to see.

Last year, in an article with Alex McIntosh, a  magazine described the Rob McIntosh location as a "True North Retail Mission". We love that description. We are thrilled to be part of the wave of Canadian patriotism that is so obviously washing from shore to shore in this fab country of ours. We don't need to be great again. We already are.  Let's work as a team Canada, use that Canadian practicality to overcome any disagreements.   And... Rob McIntosh Unique Shops are so excited about the product mix, the enthusiasm of our staff and of all our wonderful visitors who are getting used to the new price of gas and coming for a visit anyway. Summer in Canada is a time to relax, enjoy, visit, get out and about. Our historical buildings themselves (if they could talk) would tell you that we are delighted when you come and wander throught the 23,000 square feet of retail space. Easy to find-just take Exit 814 off the 401 and we're right on the corner.  Sit down in our Polar Bear Cafe and have a cinnamon Roll, a Latte, or one of Jim's Glengarry Cookies. Tell us where you are from and what you like (or don't like and we'll try to fix). When you visit and you would like others to know, please share on Tripadvisor. People keep telling us we need more reviews.  Do share the newsletter itself.  We have a new contest to win a pair of Crocs going on right now.  No purchase necessary.  Sign up instore if you have time.  Have a great week.
