The dedication and inspiration of all the amazing athletes who competed for Canada deserves our praise.

Sunday-the last day of the 2026 Olympic Games. The hockey game between Canada and the USA dominated a lot of minds. We did lose that game in overtime but the absolute style and grit that the team showed on the blue line when they sang "Oh Canada" after  the medal ceremony was as sensational as the game. The courage and dedication shown by all the competitors at these games is an inspiration to us all to give all to whatever we can (athletic or otherwise).  Go Canada Go!

MEMORIES OF CANADA MUG PAIR

Memories of Canada

Prime Minister from 1960 to 1965, Lester "Mike" Pearson, Nobel Peace Prize winner, pursued a foreign policy based on a philosophy of internationalism. The wildest debate of his half-decade in office centered on legislation to create a new flag for Canada. In the end, Canada's stunning new flag was raised on February 15, 1965.  On February 15, 1996, Prime Minister Jean Chretien declared the first National Flag of Canada Day, commemorating the adoption of the Maple Leaf Flag...

A PERSONAL STORY

THE MAPLE LEAF

Lester Pearson died in 1972. My Mother also died in 1972. My father asked me to go with him to pick a tombstone for my Mother's grave. We entered the establishment to look at stones to see that everyone was gathered around watching a stone carver carve a Maple Leaf on the top of Lester Pearson's tombstone. A memorable moment!

On January 23, 2026 at Davos Switzerland, our present Prime Minister, Mark Carney made all Canadians (from all parties) proud by making a speech that encouraged cooperation throughout the "middle powers" of our world. His famous sentence: “If we’re not at the table, we’re on the menu” was his pitch for countries like Canada to band together rather than negotiate one-on-one with superpowers. To celebrate this message, a super fun Newfie entrepreneur designed and made these t-shirts. We all need one. Click on shirt to find size.

EH Pronounced ‘ay’ and used in 99.99% of sentences uttered by Canadians, it is the most versatile of Canadian slang words. Most popularly posed as a question to mean ‘pardon?’ or ‘don’t you agree?’, it can also be used to affirm or emphasize just about anything it follows. It is a wonderful, useful, short form of enthusiastic language. We, at Rob McIntosh, pride ourselves on being unique and have fun trying to come up with product, presentation and prices that make our customers have a great experience. Our Canada House Mall has a Tilley Store at one end, a Manitobah Shop at the other end and in between is full to overflowing with authentic Indigenous products mixed together with tons of Canadian souvenirs. Don't forget to come and have a coffee and a Ginger cookie in our Polar Bear Cafe, chat with the staff or some new friends you just met in the back hallway. The Cinnamon Rolls are special and we do have more frozen for you to take home. If you'd like to share this newsletter, we'd be very pleased.   Talk soon.  Take care.   Barb
