WE ARE OPEN ON CANADA DAY

The years fly by but some things never change. Canada is an amazing country, full of amazing people who are proud to be Canadian. While researching Canada Day, I read this historical story which I thought was really cool and I had never learned in school. (So it may not be 100% accurate). Jacques Cartier, a French explorer, came to Canada three separate times to claim this territory for the King of France. While here, he heard the Iroquois speaking about "kanata" which means village in Iroquois. By the third
visit, Cartier was calling this new land Canada and it stuck. Kanata became Canada. In 1759, there was a battle on the Plains of Abraham near Quebec City. In a brief but decisive 30-minute clash, British forces defeated the French, ultimately shifting control of Canada from France to Great Britain. This was how Canada became a British colony.

But first, more history. Canada officially became a country 159 years ago when four separate British Empire colonies (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia) formed a union which was the beginning of Canada as we know it today. More colonies joined in and on July 1, 1867, the British Parliament granted Canada dominion status. July 1 became annually celebrated as Dominion Day. When
Canada became completely politically independent in 1982, the holiday was renamed Canada Day. We can't imagine now being dependent on any other country. We have the resources, the skills and the desire. Having King Charles, the monarch of the United Kingdom, as our official monarch of Canada, is complementary to our diversified image. Let's stand tall and be proud.
