Rob McIntosh is a unique shopping experience and once a week we chat about what that means.  Usually, I just highlight a few products and then let you go off to research our online store or our retail location by yourselves so that you can enjoy the products quietly without any pressure. This newsletter however is bringing out the babbling side of me and I can't stop thinking of products I want to talk about so if you're in a rush, my apologies because this is long.  Have fun always!

GLENGARRY HIGHLAND GAMES

JULY 31-AUGUST 1, 2026

The Glengarry Highland Games, annually since 1948 (except for two COVID years), attracts visitors from all over the world. Rob McIntosh Unique Shops are definitely a local attraction which visitors to the games always include, before or after attending these games in Glengarry. This county covers 288,688 acres in Eastern Ontario bordering the St. Lawrence River. Founded in 1784 by Scottish Highland loyalists and British sympathizers from the Mohawk Valley in New York, this area has a ton of history. (It is one of the earliest settled regions in Upper Canada, now called Ontario, and uses the slogan "Where Ontario Began!".) 

A DREAM:  GLENGARRY MUGS

"WHERE ONTARIO BEGAN"  Rob McIntosh (Yes! There really is a Rob McIntosh) lives in South Glengarry. And...One day...a lightbulb went off in Barb's (Rob's wife's) head. A dream was born. Glengarry Mugs! A unique sustainable memory to take away from this historical part of Canada. Dreams do not always happen quickly but if they are inspired by love (as these mugs were), then the time-line is in the hands of the Universe. It took three years to accomplish but the mugs are awesome. Bone China mugs are wonderful to drink from; the creamy off-white bone content makes the mugs very strong, chip-resistant and safe in a microwave. Rob believes "Bone china makes coffee and tea taste special".

TARTAN IS IN TREND

Tartan fashion is a major style trend rooted in Scottish heritage, featuring crisscrossed horizontal and vertical colored bands. It ranges from classic wool kilts and tailored suits to modern street-style skirts and high-fashion statement pieces.  Scarves are a must.

TARTAN SCARVES

Timeless style with practical warmth, tartan scarves were first made super trendy by elegant movie stars in the thirties (1930's) who would dress up any outfit with a different tartan item. Now it's part of all cultures as a fashion item.

Rob grew up as a Habs fan but he lives half way between Ottawa and Montreal so now he's a Habs fan and a Sens fan equally. This is difficult when they play each other. All team products can be ordered easily.  Just contact us.

SCOTTISH DELUXE BLANKETS

The deluxe  blanket, available in so many tartan patterns, is the way that most of us think of tartan blankets. Some years ago, the knee blanket came into being for its practical applications: it fits wheelchairs perfectly, not so heavy to carry, great for arenas where the space is limited.   Both are super and stylish and warm.   Take your pick.

Ceud Mile Failte is a Gaelic expression meaning 100 Thousand Welcomes. This originates from an Irish tradition to always welcome strangers into their midst with a smile (and often a whiskey). These are not online but we have them instore. I think they are cool. Just ask us by email or phone.

Summer is half over. Who can believe how fast it comes and goes. At Rob McIntosh, from a unique business perspective, it's time to start thinking about fall. Fall fairs, Thanksgiving, and yes!, even Christmas. Again, as a business (as in real life), you always have to go forward, think ahead, continue to grow and develop and adjust to whatever is happening in the world around you. But some things don't change no matter what the season. We always have bargains (not necessarily the same ones), we always love you to come and see us and tell us your stories. We love being a unique shopping experience and making you happy and showing you products and things to make your own lives more unique. We're evolving our Fun Food section and getting better at it we think. Watch for that section on the website to change considerably in the upcoming weeks. The Canadian Border Services changed their procedure (and we couldn't figure it out) so alot of our Aran sweaters had been stuck in customs (but are now finally here and beautiful). Do come and have a coffee in our Polar Bear Cafe. The new Cadbury chocolate products from England are really hard to resist.  Sorry to be grumpy about not having all sizes but Tilley hats are so popular just keeping them in stock is a struggle.  We can order any size.  Crocs also.  More coming as fast as we can get them.
