The Canada Mug collection featured above historically was the second phase (but equally important phase) of the creation of our McIntosh Mug line. McIntosh Mugs began their journey in 2004 as a set of four bone china mugs depicting some of Tom Thomson's most striking paintings. Taking this idea of using bone china to offset famous paintings, the McIntosh family developed the McIntosh Mug brand into a sought after artistic collectible which is available in some of
the best known art galleries in the world (eg. Smithsonian, AGO, National Gallery of Canada etc) as well as many luxury shops across Canada.

VINCENT VAN GOGH A quintessential tortured artist, Van Gogh became hugely successful but only after his death. He created about 2,100 artworks, including around 860 oil paintings, most of which date from the last two years of his life. Not commercially successful, he struggled with severe depression and poverty, which led to his suicide at age thirty-seven. Van Gogh loved the stars. He did many versions of his Starry, Starry Night, two of which are reproduced on these
mugs.

ROBERT BATEMAN
Robert McLellan Bateman, born in Toronto, was a keen naturalist who clearly paints his love of nature. He's an officer of the Order of Canada, a holder of 14 honorary doctorates, declared as one of the top 100 environmental proponents of the 20th century by the Audubon Society of Canada. We were lucky enough to welcome Robert Bateman to our Cornwall store (around 1993) to meet his fans and to sign his new book which had
just been published. (The lineup to see Bateman extended the length of a two story mall down the stairs and outside into the street. He was totally gracious and talked with everyone there.) The actual painting depicted on these mugs was given to Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer as a wedding present from all of Canada.
