WEAR ORANGE FOR TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION DAY
|
A grassroots movement started by Phyllis Webstad in 2013 has now grown into a special day, National Truth and Reconciliation Day, to honor the survivors of residential schools (Phyllis' new orange shirt was taken away on her first day at a residential school). September 30th, was chosen as the date for this special day because it was during the time of year children were forcibly removed from their homes to go to these schools.

Multiple intersecting developments define the current Indigenous landscape in Canada, but the most interesting trend is the accelerating movement toward Indigenous-led governance and land stewardship. Getting past the old Colonial systems sounds like a no-brainer but it's a long slow process as the Indigenous can tell you. It is happening though. With this new political climate of inclusion, the process is speeding up beyond anything we could have hoped. In
Canada, we believe every person matters. And Rob McIntosh believes that in our small way we can contribute to its success. You have to see our Indigenous collection. Come and visit for an adventure.

Rob McIntosh stocks Indigenous Art Calendars from 28 different Indigenous artists. We chose this Calendar by Carla Joseph as a special favourite (but we are crazy about all of them-it was hard to pick).

Rob McIntosh loves the Indigenous use of color to bring life and excitement to artistic ventures. We are continuously expanding our space allocated to Indigenous art mediums like jewellery, clothing, travel items and much much more. Last year at this time, we were negotiating to obtain a new unique Manitobah shop in our Canada House Mall. (At that time, I wasn't supposed to say anything until it was for sure but I told my newletter readers and everyone kept their
fingers crossed that it was going to work). And it did! Oh My! A Tilley Shop at one end and...a Manitobah Shop at the other. In between, a long hallway connecting the two historical buildings is a smorgasbord of Indigenous products. With this unusual weather we're having, it is a great time to come and see for yourself. A drive in the country-how much fun is that. Have a coffee and a date square (you will notice that the hallway behind our Polar Bear Cafe is under renovation and
I'm sure you're wondering why).Things are always changing at Rob McIntosh and this reno is no less unusual. You have to wait for a couple of weeks to hear the whole story but meantime, a lot of the gourmet food products which were formally in this same hallway are now on sale 40% off to make room for the new exciting surprise. Do visit, chat with the staff and then wander through the buildings seeing what there is to see. If you have fun (and we're sure you will), give us a
review or share this newsletter. Barb
